BOOST (Bullington Onsite Occupational Student Training) is a program for special needs sophomores in the Occupational Course of Study in the 4 Henderson County high schools. Each week students come to the Center to work on the grounds, gardens and in the greenhouse as basic job skills are emphasized.
In addition to caring for the gardens (mulching, edging, weeding, planting & transplanting) and the nature trail (clearing, chipping, spreading wood chips), students also design and install gardens in the garden competition between the 4 schools. Students must complete the gardens within a budget of $40. Seeds are ordered and grown in the greenhouse. Other elements stone, birdhouses, etc. must also be included unless found on the property. Students must submit a design and budget for judges to see when judging the gardens in June.
