January has most definitely not been a dormant month at Bullington. Construction on laying pavers to make the gardens more accessible, electrical upgrades to the Bullington house and planning for our 30th anniversary celebration in June have all been in the works all month long. In addition, educational programs have continued with BOOST students planning their gardens for the annual gardens competition, horticultural therapy students bringing their typical joy to the garden each week and 5th graders learning about the science of how genetic traits are inherited with the use of some of our colorful plants.
Wondering what’s been going on with all the trucks at Bullington Gardens lately? Watch for our next Bulletin for a peek at a new accessible garden path and accessible parking area, fully funded by Elisabeth Chiboucas of Wheels in the Woods Foundation. Less obvious, but still long overdue, have been improvements inside of Bullington House/Outreach Facility, funded by the Community Foundation of Henderson County. All of these projects promise more enjoyment and safety for our visitors for the new year and beyond.
We’re off to a great start in our 30th year. And we’d like to celebrate in several ways. One is to greatly increase our Friends of Bullington membership. Of course the membership gives you benefits such as a discount on plants and workshops, and an invitation to our spring pre-sale. But the biggest benefit is knowing that you’re supporting this small jewel in Henderson County. We rely on the community’s support to keep educational programs going and the gardens maintained.
